AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the Council’s Leadership Team helping to establish priorities, launch new initiatives, align resources, adapt systems, and champion change.
- Develop and implement inclusive strategies and plans to establish partnerships and collaborative relationships with external organizations. Leverage new and existing relationships and partnerships to extend and support the impact of Girl Scouting within the Council’s jurisdictions.
- Partner with executive leadership to set growth targets and goals for girl and adult membership, retention, and volunteer engagement, leading the execution of membership strategy to attract and retain members ages 5-17, as well as adult members and volunteers.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of departmental strategic plans that meet goals and align with the philosophy and mission of Girl Scouts and the Council’s policies. Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure membership efforts align with program delivery, camp offerings, and council events to ensure high-quality experiences.
- Champion a seamless, positive experience for girls and families from first point of contact through active, ongoing participation.
- Serve as a key ambassador for membership strategy, sharing insights and outcomes with internal teams, board members, and the broader Girl Scout Network.
- Lead mission-aligned recruitment efforts and outreach across diverse markets, prioritizing outreach to underrepresented communities by delivering the Girl Scouts message of inclusion and belonging. Analyze community needs, demographic data, and membership statistic in order to prepare technical reports by collecting and summarizing information and trends from internal and external data sources to provide real time information on opportunities.
- Drive community-based recruitment efforts by building partnerships with schools, local organizations, and faith-based institutions.
- Identify and implement innovative retention initiatives that strengthen the Girl Scout experience to increase year-over-year renewals and promote long-term engagement.
- In collaboration with Marketing, design materials and messaging for consistent outreach, follow-up, and conversion of leads, ensuring families and volunteers are welcomed and supported from their first interaction.
- Ensure assessment of outcomes and goals, institutionalization of best practices, and implementation of necessary modifications to ensure girls are receiving the Girl Scout Leadership Experience utilizing a variety of methods to promote continuous quality improvement.
- Supervise Membership staff by directing and inspiring their work, monitoring and evaluating performance, and providing ongoing feedback to maximize efficiencies, productivity, and excellent customer service.
- Promote a positive, goal-oriented work culture based in continuous learning and development opportunities.
- Develop, manage and monitor the department budget as it relates to membership recruitment and services; ensure best practices and resource efficiency.
- Guide staff in using data insights, community connections, and compelling storytelling to drive results and impact.
- Lead new membership staff onboarding, including mentoring and timely delivery of required training schedules, along with ongoing development of existing staff.

- 5+ years of membership and leadership experience, including staff and volunteer management. Bachelor’s degree preferred or High School Diploma/GED and equivalent experience.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and team-building skills with a proven ability to motivate and retain high-performing teams.
- Proficient in sales and marketing strategies, lead management, customer engagement, and closing techniques.
- Experienced in managing multiple projects and priorities with sound judgment and attention to deadlines.
- Skilled in financial oversight, budgeting, and operational planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively across diverse backgrounds and resolve conflicts.
- Prior to or upon hire, candidate must hold personal membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
