Our client is currently recruiting for a dynamic and dedicated Associate Attorney to fill a critical role supporting the State of South Carolina. This position offers the opportunity to serve as a key legal advisor and representative for the State, providing essential counsel across a broad spectrum of legal matters. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with state laws and statutes, representing the State in legal proceedings, and advising government agencies and officials on complex legal issues. This is a temporary, full time position in Columbia, SC. 

Requirements: 
  • The candidate must have a J.D. Degree and be a member of the South Carolina Bar and have satisfied the 403 requirements before starting the position.
  •  Knowledge and ability to interpret the laws of South Carolina.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Some overnight travel may be required.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides legal advice, counsel, and services to the State and as directed, to State agencies, public officials, and political subdivisions of the State (collectively the “State”).
  • Manages caseload, researches and prepares high-quality documents
  • Represents the State and its interests in contested matters by appearing in all courts at all levels.
  • Coordinates enforcement of the South Carolina Underground Facility Damage Prevention Act (the “SC811 Act”)
  • Serves as extradition hearing officer for the State of South Carolina
  • Serves as attorney to the State Grievance Committee.
  • Serves as coordinator for all FOIA requests sent to the Attorney General’s Office and provides legal advice and counsel to all employees of the Office on all matters relating to FOIA.
Compensation & Benefits :
