Clinical Director

Department: Clinical
Reports To: Executive Director

Primary Function

The Clinical Director (CD) serves as a key leadership member of the treatment team, overseeing clinical operations from client admission through discharge. The CD ensures effective execution of treatment plans, supervises the clinical team, and maintains regulatory compliance and program excellence.

Scope

Under direction of the Executive Director, the Clinical Director is responsible for all clinical components of client care and treatment programming.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and leadership to the clinical team
  • Oversee clinical staff activities across all shifts, including weekends
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard clinical team members
  • Orient new hires to the clinical department
  • Order and manage program supplies
  • Approve timecards and payroll for the clinical department
  • Serve as therapist as needed
  • Manage scheduling, labor hours, and overtime
  • Provide department-specific training and education
  • Ensure adherence to DMHA, Joint Commission, and Life Safety standards
  • Conduct clinical screenings for potential admissions as needed
  • Prepare corrective-action documentation and recommend discipline to the ED
  • Audit EMR documentation for accuracy and timeliness
  • Report safety hazards to the Executive Director
  • Properly utilize PPE and follow hand hygiene standards
  • Participate in performance improvement and competency evaluation
  • Document client sessions and process discharges
  • Facilitate two process groups per week
  • Review and sign clinical documentation (BIOS, treatment plans, progress notes, etc.)
  • Participate in weekend rotation

Additional duties may be assigned based on facility and patient needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in a Behavioral Health discipline
  • Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience
  • Active, unrestricted clinical license
  • Strong organizational/time-management skills and ability to lead and motivate teams
  • Client-centered approach with strong computer skills
  • Schedule flexibility required to support variable client admissions
  • Valid driver’s license and personal insured transportation
