Position Summary
Lead the financial charge at the club! You’ll be at the helm, guiding and supervising all things finance. Picture yourself as the chief strategist, working closely with the General Manager on exciting ventures like budget management, cost-benefit analysis, and forecasting needs. But that’s not all – you’ll also be crafting policies, setting up procedures, and ensuring everything runs smoothly in the world of accounting, auditing, budgets, and taxes. Areas of Responsibility:
Trust and Teamwork:
  • Works with the General Manager and department heads to plan and manage capital budgets and cash flow statements, fostering collaboration and teamwork across departments.
  • Oversees member billing and collection procedures, ensuring trust and transparency in financial transactions.
  • Ensures timely communication with members related to billing inquiries and seeks amicable resolution of any billing concerns or discrepancies.
  • Selects, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates accounting staff, fostering an environment of trust and teamwork within the department.
  • Prepares accurate and timely financial reports for the General Manager and all club committees to ensure legal and operational compliance goals are met.
Balance and Appreciation:
  • Evaluates operating results for costs, revenues, budgets, policies of operation, trends, and increased profit possibilities, maintaining a balanced approach to financial management.
  • Prepares a full report of the year’s financial operations for presentation at the annual meeting, demonstrating appreciation for stakeholders and ensuring transparency in financial matters.
  • Monitors collection of past-due accounts, advising the General Manager and board as needed, demonstrating a balanced approach to financial management and member relations.
Innovation:
  • Manages and conducts internal auditing programs to assure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and practices are satisfactorily and consistently followed, seeking innovative solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Negotiates and acquires property and casualty insurance to protect the club’s assets, demonstrating innovative risk management strategies.
  • Manages, reviews, suggests, and monitors changes in the automated financial management and accounting system, seeking innovative solutions to improve financial processes.
Effective Communication:
  • Directs or prepares monthly financial statements for the club in a timely fashion that includes the income statement, balance sheet, and other data necessary for financial reports and records, ensuring effective communication of financial insights to club leadership well in advance of any committee meetings.
  • Prepares and verifies reports made to agencies and trade and professional organizations for which dissemination is consistent with club policies, ensuring effective communication of financial information externally.
  • Attends monthly board, finance committee, and other meetings as required, ensuring effective communication of financial insights and recommendations to club leadership.
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university, preferred.
  • Five to seven years of professional accounting experience with at least two of those years at the Controller level or equivalent in club operation, preferred.
  • Experience supervising a staff/team of accountants and bookkeepers.
  • Certified Hospitality Accounting Executive (CHAE) a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license a plus.
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
  • Consistently monitors cash flows.
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts for all bookkeeping, payroll, budgets, statistical analysis and probability statements.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to analyze investment returns.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal and state employment laws and practices.
