AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the Council’s Leadership Team helping to establish priorities, launch new initiatives, align resources, adapt systems, and champion change.
- Develop and implement inclusive strategies and plans to establish partnerships and collaborative relationships with external organizations. Leverage new and existing relationships and partnerships to extend and support the impact of Girl Scouting within the Council’s jurisdictions.
- Collaborate across departments to advance council-wide initiatives by promoting participation in key activities, meetings, and volunteer opportunities that strengthen engagement, visibility, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Maintain current knowledge of community needs, youth development trends, and issues affecting girls, and apply these insights to guide discussions, program practices, and council services.
- Stay up to date on GSUSA and ACA policies, priorities, and changes, ensuring alignment with evolving national standards and requirements.
- Partner and collaborate cross-functionally to assess membership trends, review program feedback and apply findings to strategic decisions and service improvements.
- Ensure the safety and risk management of all programs by adhering to Girl Scouts of USA (GSUSA), Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands (GSSCMM), ACA accreditation standards, local, state, and other regulatory policies.
- Actively foster environments rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion, racial justice and belonging through words, actions, and attitudes, ensuring all programs reflect these values and are culturally sensitive and accessible.
- Girl Program: oversee and approve the design, creation, and implementation of a diverse range of progressive year-round programs, events, and partnerships that align with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).
- Summer Camp: provide supervision and strategic oversight for the council’s three (3) summer camps, including budgeting, session planning, marketing, and supervision and support to camp program managers while effectively implementing a crisis management/emergency procedures when needed. Adult Education: serve as a liaison to the volunteer coordinator to ensure adult volunteers have access to training, resources, and support to increase personal engagement, confidence and effectiveness in delivering the Girl Scout program experience.
- Analyze community needs, demographic data, and membership statistic in order to prepare technical reports by collecting and summarizing information and trends from internal and external data sources to provide real time information on opportunities.
- Ensure assessment of outcomes and goals, institutionalization of best practices, and implementation of necessary modifications to ensure girls are receiving the Girl Scout Leadership Experience utilizing a variety of methods to promote continuous quality improvement.
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with community leaders, families, institutions, and businesses to promote Girl Scouting and expand program offerings.
- Build and maintain a diverse network of partners across all 22 counties served by the council. Partner with the advancement team to develop and implement year-round marketing campaigns and materials for all programming, partnerships, camps, training, and events.
- Promote the Girl Scout culture of philanthropy by actively cultivating, stewarding, and strengthening relationships with funders and potential donors to inspire sustained investment.
- Create innovative collaborations with non-profits, schools, and other out of school time partners to remove barriers and expand opportunities for girls to participate in our programs.
- Provide leadership, direction, and accountability for the Program team, ensuring alignment with GSUSA philosophy and council strategy and policies.
- Develop and manage the program department’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with financial goals and service quality.
- Monitor expenses and collaborates with the advancement team to identify and support grant opportunities.
- 5+ years of leadership experience, specifically leading teams responsible for youth programs, events, or education with prior non-profit experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or High School Diploma/GED and equivalent experience.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a creative, forward-thinking mindset. Proven leadership and supervisory experience with the ability to manage, motivate, and retain high-performing teams.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to communicate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in volunteer management and team collaboration within nonprofit or mission-driven environments.
- Experienced in handling confidential information and exercising sound judgment.
- Proficient in budget planning and administration, with strong analytical and financial oversight abilities.
- Prior to or upon hire, candidate must hold personal membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
