Summary: Our client, a mid-sized law firm in Columbia, is seeking to hire a Legal Assistant to provide administrative and legal support to assigned attorneys. This individual will act as the primary point of contact for clients in attorneys’ absence and offers informed assistance by understanding case matters and workflows.
This is an on-site Direct Hire position, salaried with benefits.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage incoming calls, relay messages, and ensure prompt responses to client needs.
  • Monitor and respond to attorney emails under supervision.
  • Maintain client communication records in the document management system.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread legal documents (e.g., pleadings, contracts, briefs) from verbal or written input.
  • File court documents electronically and assist with trial preparation as needed.
  • Maintain organized, up-to-date client files.
  • Prepare case materials such as pleading binders and indexes.
  • Track key deadlines and court dates, and keep attorneys informed of upcoming obligations.
  • Enter timesheets, open new case files, and support firm-wide projects such as newsletters, events, and mass communications.
  • Provide assistance to other attorneys when needed.
  • Arrange travel and accommodations, prepare expense reports, and ensure timely submission of receipts and reimbursements.
  • Participate in training and mentoring initiatives.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification preferred
  • Minimum 1-2 years of administrative experience (legal setting preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; 70+ WPM typing speed preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures a plus
  • Experience with document management systems preferred
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm
Compensation & Benefits:
