We are seeking a professional Payroll Tax Analyst to join a growing team based in Greenville, SC. This role can be done 100% Remote, however the candidate MUST live in one of the states listed below .The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of Payroll Tax experience and strong Workday knowledge.
This Candidate MUST LIVE in one of the following states: AL, AK, AR, FL, GA, ID, IN, IA, KS, LA, MI, MS, MO, NC, OH, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WY
Job Description:
- Manage and process bi-weekly payroll that includes but is not limited to creation of all new payroll jobs; coordination with HR and Financial Systems; monitor output for accuracy and correction of errors; payroll information generated in appropriate format and sent to outside agencies, internal accountants and management
- Manage identification and monitoring of automation of secondary jobs
- Manage the processing of special pay requests
- Work closely with HR for review of those requiring HR approval
- Coordinate with HR, and Financial Systems
- Responsible for creating and generating bi-weekly and ad hoc financial reports for management, staff and outside auditors
- Complete of analysis generated by these reports
- Oversee account reconciliation, analysis and reporting of payroll accounts
- Update HR/Payroll system to maintain accuracy with GL system
- Analyze repayments due to over-payments or underpayments
- Prepares all necessary documentation to comply with IRS regulations
- Work closely with payroll manager
- Maintain the timekeeper security aspect of timekeeping system
- Handle quarterly and yearly reconciliations and multiple state filing requirements for payroll reporting on multiple companies including but not limited to IRS, State Departments of Revenue, SC Economic Development, Employment Security Commission, Workers Comp
- Oversee coordination of payroll audits and inquiries regarding these filings
- Develops documented procedures for payroll staff, timekeepers and managers
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar field
- Multi-State Payroll Experience (REQUIRED)
- CPA or CPP (Strongly Preferred)
- Experience in Healthcare (Preferred but not required)
- Experience with Workday, ADP Smart Compliance or OSV Tax Compliance
- Mastery of 941, 940 (FUTA), state withholding, SUI/SUTA, local/city taxes, school district taxes
- Experience with W-2/W-2c, W-3, 1099-NEC/MISC (when payroll-adjacent), and amended returns
- Understanding of nexus, multi-state withholding rules, resident vs. nonresident taxation, reciprocity agreements, supplemental wage taxation, imputed income (e.g., GTL), fringe benefits, and year-end balancing
- Consolidated and entity-level tax balancing; intercompany mappings; entity-specific jurisdiction registrations and closures.
- Managing multiple SUI rates, experience rating transfers,
- Setting up state/local tax IDs, power of attorney management
- Responding to agency notices, penalty/interest abatement, and case resolution
- Payroll-tax to GL reconciliation (liability accounts, suspense clearing), month/quarter/year-end tie-outs; variance explanations
- Experience with account mapping, accruals, and payroll cut-off processes
- Comfortable supporting internal audit, external financial auditors, and state agency audits
- Strong analytical and problem solving
- Ability to communicate across multiple departments
Hours:
- Monday to Friday (8 am to 5 pm)
- Must be willing to work on Eastern Time Zone Hours
Compensation & Benefits:
- $65,000 – $96,000 (Salary)
