We are seeking two individuals for a non-profit in Spartanburg. These individuals will make a direct and positive impact on members at the unhoused community as they transition into permanent housing (one position) and as they acclimate to housing and more independent living (the second position). These roles require a lot of face-to-face work in the community with unhoused members of the population and recently housed members of the community, but strongly values work-life balance outside of normal business hours. Come impact your community!

DUTIES:
  • Work closely in the field with the unhoused community in Spartanburg (one position) or with those who have been recently housed who are acclimating to that transition (the second position)
  • Serve as an assistant to the unhoused or recently housed, scheduling doctors’ appts, coordinating transportation, and more (both positions)
  • Distribute mail to homeless who use their PO Box (the first position)
  • Drive clients to appointments as needed (both positions)
  • Work closely with partners (VA, Access Health, Housing partners, mental health partners) to coordinate various resources
  • Handle a typical case load of 25-30 clients with regular touchpoints (up to 50 “on paper”)
  • Work with a police escort assigned to the non-profit only if there are safety concerns due to mental illness or substance abuse (if needed)
  • Once a week on Tuesdays OR Thursdays, serve dinner from 4-6:30 p.m. (come in late the following day)
  • Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (except once a week on Tuesdays OR Thursdays to serve dinner from 4-6:30pm.)

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a heart for community with confident communication and leadership skills (not in terms of managing people but in terms of working with them)
  • Must be comfortable working directly with the unhoused population in the community
  • Must have some work experience or involvement (2+ years ideal) in a related field (non-profit, community outreach, case management, social work, or something that could tie in well to this type of role)
  • Must be good at problem solving
  • Valid license and able to pass drivers check and operate a vehicle
  • Background check and drug screen

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • $45k-$47k
  • State benefits – health, dental and vision (plus access to fee clinic for city and county employees and their families)
  • 18 PTO days + 12 paid holidays
  • State retirement (city contributes 18%) plus optional 401k
  • Additional perks: Great work-life balance (turn off your cell phone at 5 p.m. and leave your laptop at work!)
