ABOUT THE POSITION
Safe Harbor is seeking a strategic and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization in fulfilling its mission of providing pathways for people impacted by domestic abuse to survive and thrive and raising awareness of domestic abuse through community engagement and education. The CEO will be responsible for driving Safe Harbor’s strategic direction, expanding its visibility and access, ensuring financial sustainability, and fostering a thriving team and culture.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Strategic Leadership
- Lead Safe Harbor through a pivotal transition period, focusing on continuity of care and services, operational stability, and alignment across teams.
- In partnership with the Board, execute on strategic plans while thoughtfully assessing areas for refinement, based on operational realities and emerging needs.
- Translate strategy into clearly defined priorities, metrics, and execution plans, ensuring accountability across the organization.
- Proactively assess organizational risk and establish ethical, compliant operational practices that protect the organization and those we serve, allowing for long-term sustainability.
- Maintain a forward-thinking mindset, anticipating emerging challenges, and positioning the organization for continued innovation, relevance, and growth.
Community Engagement & Visibility
- Act as the key spokesperson for Safe Harbor’s vision and mission, building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including survivors, community leaders, funders, and other nonprofit partners.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the issues surrounding domestic violence, including barriers survivors face in accessing resources and support, while staying informed on emerging trends, policy developments, and best practices through ongoing learning, research, and stakeholder engagement.
- Elevate Safe Harbor’s visibility and influence by positioning the organization as a leading voice on domestic violence awareness, prevention, advocacy, and survivor support across the Upstate, South Carolina, and the broader nonprofit community.
Financial Growth & Sustainability
- In partnership with Director of Development, lead efforts to diversify and increase revenue through a mix of philanthropic support, corporate sponsorships, and grant opportunities.
- Cultivate and leverage personal and professional networks, along with institutional relationships, to identify and engage potential donors, investors, and partners who align with mission.
- Working alongside the Director of Finance, ensure disciplined financial management, maintaining the organization’s strong fiscal position while aligning resources with strategic priorities.
Organizational Innovation & Impact
- Identify and pursue innovative opportunities to grow the organization, build new partnerships, and expand service delivery to enhance access to resources.
- Provide disciplined oversight of all programs and operations, ensuring delivery of high-quality, mission-aligned services.
- Identify and address operational inefficiencies, modernizing systems, workflows, and processes as needed to support scale and sustainability.
Team & Culture Development
- Work with Senior Leadership to attract, retain, and motivate a strong, high-performing team that embodies Safe Harbor’s values and mission and are held accountable to clear goals and objectives.
- Build a culture of trust, teamwork, service, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Ensure regular leadership meetings drive accountability and clarity of organizational direction.
- Grow and invest in relationships with Board members, individually and collectively, based on mutual respect and shared goals. Understand each Board member’s priorities, lens, and specific strengths.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a related field preferred.
- 8+ years of executive-level leadership experience within a nonprofit, with experience in direct services preferred.
- Proven ability to guide organizations through periods of change, scale operations, and drive long-term growth and performance improvement.
- Demonstrated success in fund development, including major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and public/private partnerships.
- Experience providing strong financial oversight, including budgeting, forecasting, and aligning financial strategies with organizational impact.
- History of effectively engaging and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including Board members, community leaders, funders, and staff.
- Proven success in leading and developing diverse, high-performing teams and fostering a strong organizational culture.

The salary offered will be commensurate with experience. Safe Harbor offers comprehensive benefits to complement the salary provided.
